Thinker Techniques

Thinking Club was formally established upon the suggestion of Edward de Bono. Credited with coining the term, ‘lateral thinking’ de Bono suggested that creative thinking is a skill that can be taught and improved with practice.

Though individually we had been engaged in creative thinking for work and clients, we wanted to improve our performance. By establishing regular meetings through Thinking Club, we formalised the process and encouraged further exploration of new techniques.

For  these sessions we regularly scour the world for new approaches, tactics and strategies to optimise our creative thinking. Often we choose to practice a new technique as we apply it to the day’s current discussion point. Thinking Club suggests the following thinker techniques. For further reading, please consult our resources list.

> Random Words: Introduce random words to generate new thoughts on your focal point.
> Opposites: Substitute keywords with their opposite to extend your thoughts on a subject.
> ‘Po’ Thinking : a prefix created by de Bono to encourage lateral thinking.
